Hello and welcome to OurEdventures!  My name is Dianne and I'm the mom and travel planner extraordinaire.  Our family of four has been traveling for over a decade and with my background in education, I can't help myself but make sure we are learning together while we're adventuring together.

This blog is a resource for anyone wanting to experience educational travel with their family.  You might be thinking, isn't all travel educational?  I couldn't agree more!  Whether you're intentional with your itinerary or not, I truly believe that kids and parents alike learn so much about people, cultures, history, art, and more just by traveling and getting to experience the world first-hand.

OurEdventures contains:

  • Our Itineraries
  • Educational Points of Interest
  • Journal Ideas
  • Books for Kids - related to travel
  • Travel Tips

Together as a family we have been to five continents and 27 countries.  We haven't been everywhere, but it's on our list.

Our Story

Before I was a mom I was a teacher.  I spent 13 years teaching literature and history to middle school students.  I never imagined that someday I'd be homeschooling or traveling the world with our family.  But when our oldest was ready to start kindergarten we just didn't feel like buckling down with a traditional school schedule.  Our then 6 and 4 year old boys had already been all over the world, and we weren't ready to give it up.  So we found a great charter school/independent study program in our area that has been a great fit for us.  We are now in our 7th year.  We can choose to use their curriculum or use our own.  We have access to lots of great resources including a helpful staff.  Attendance is not required and travel is encouraged.  So this has worked well for us.  When we're home, the boys attend workshop classes, when we're on the road, we keep up with our academic responsibilities from afar.  We tend to travel about 3 months out of every year.

This works for us, but I realize that people who find our blog may have a completely different schedule.  Maybe you're on the road as full-time road-schoolers or perhaps you're in a traditional school schedule just looking to plan your next spring break or summer vacation.  I hope you'll find the resources here helpful.  Feel free to reach out.  I'd love to hear your feedback, hear about your educational ideas for travel or answer your questions.
