Books to read before, during and after

your trip to Costa Rica

We just returned home from a family trip to Costa Rica.  There are so many wonderful things to explore in this beautiful and diverse country.  Below are a few books to consider reading before, during or after your trip.

A Kid's Guide to Costa Rica

A Kid’s Guide to Costa Rica is an engaging, easy-to-read book for kids about this fascinating country where two-thirds of all animal and plant species live. With its stunning, full-color photographs, the book provides an engaging introduction to the people, customs, and culture of this Central American country. Designed primarily for recreational, high-interest reading, the informational text series is also a great resource for students to use to research geography topics or writing assignments.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica offers complete coverage of this fascinating country, including sections on history, geography, wildlife, infrastructure and government, and culture. It also includes a detailed fact file, maps and charts, and a traceable flag.

Costa Rica ABCs

This is a perfect choice for the younger kids!  Coffee and brightly painted oxcarts. Quetzals, coastlines, and the Montverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Learn the ABCs of Costa Rica in this exotic, colorful tour of the small but treasure-filled Central American country.

The Remarkable Rainforest

I love this book because it's an activity book full of great things for kids to do.  Why not start off your trip with this great resource to work on while on the flight?  The Remarkable Rainforest teaches children about the plight of rainforests and what we can do to help save them. It includes the author's "Rainforest Journal" about her adventures in Central American rainforests, fascinating information, unique photos and artwork, and loads of activities. Children can grow a mini-rainforest that makes its own rain, learn how to get a "crocodile eye," and start a rainforest club. The book also contains a glossary, a bibliography for kids, and lists of resources.
